Boston Marathon Massacre
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” ~ Genesis 50:20
I love this verse. There is so much power behind the statement. It has encouraged me through many personal attacks in my life with the news that even the ugliest of human hearts, events, and atrocities will be redeemed by the blood of our Savior for a much greater purpose than a temporary life on earth – the ultimate saving of many lives for eternity. It is His promise, and yet, sometimes, it is hard for us to remember His goodness in light of tragedy…
The rainbow has always been a soothing balm to my soul, a reminder of God’s blessings in my life. I have claimed it as a personal message from God to my inbox. It is how He communicates His peace, strength, mercy, grace, and greatness in my life – and I needed it this morning. I think all of us might have needed it this morning. Is it a coincidence that the rain came earlier than predicted? Is it coincidence that I took the wrong turn on my way to work while driving in a mental fog? Or was it ordained for me (and you) to see the faint glimmer of hope and promise in the form of ROYGBIV?
With the perspective of eternity in His eyes, He cares far more about our relationship with Him and the eternal lives of people than He does our temporary safety and security. We live in a world where people are broken, sinful, and clouded. We live in a world where the devil is at work – he is fighting a war that he has already lost and is desperate to take as many down with him as he can.
But notice the good news here – Satan has not won, God has won. Therefore, we have won. No matter what happens, those who believe in Christ have won. This world will never be a place that won’t scare you to raise your children in – so raise them to be warriors for God’s army. Don’t live life in fear – live life for eternity. Don’t be silent – use your story for the saving of many lives as God intends. The stories of the heroes and of hope in God through heartache are what will take the victory out of evil’s grasp and redeem even the Boston Marathon Massacre to the glory of God.
