This simple delicious smoothie is a perfect way to get more greens into your daily diet while barely noticing it! All you taste (and see) is the fruit! The mangos lend a perfect sweetness and the blueberries turn the smoothie purple masking that telltale green color that often keeps kids (and some adults) from adding greens to their smoothies. Be careful though… the magic of this tasty beverage only lasts so long. It will oxidize and turn green after a few minutes, so if the color bothers you, drink up! Either way, it is a nutritious way to start the day or perfect as an afternoon treat. This recipe makes 1 large or 2 smaller servings.

ingredients: 1/4 cup liquid, such as water or juice, 1/4 cup yogurt (I use organic plain whole milk yogurt), 1 ripened banana, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 1/2 cup frozen mango, 2 large handfuls greens, such as spinach or kale, or a mixture of both

directions: In a blender, add the ingredients in the order they are listed (liquid, yogurt, fruit, greens). Blend on low speed, then switch to high until everything is combined thoroughly. Pour into glasses and serve immediately. Some other suggested add-ins: For more protein, add a scoop of vanilla protein powder, or to help keep you fuller longer, chia seeds make a great addition. You can also use different kinds of fruit and experiment with different flavor combinations. Just don’t skip the banana — even if you are not a fan, you will barely taste it and it is what gives the smoothie its creamy texture. Have fun experimenting and coming up with your own combinations!
