The family of Sierra Jones is mourning and celebrating at the same time.
Sierra Jones died when her car crashed into a tree on March 28, 2016. She was a 19-year old freshman at the University of Southern Mississippi from Ocean Springs, Mississippi. But her death is not the biggest piece of her story.
The day before she died, she posted a simple statement to her Facebook page: “I know for a fact God is real.”
Sierra’s parents, Sarah and Roshaun, raised their four children in church, but it wasn’t until college that Sierra began making her faith her own. Sarah says it was the prompting of the Easter Sunday service at their church.
“She was telling me, ‘Mom, when Pastor August made the altar call for those that wanted to receive salvation to come up…I didn’t want to move from my seat because I just wanted to talk to God myself,'” Sarah told Caray Grace of WLOX News.
Sierra’s Facebook post has reached more than 6,000 likes and has been shared over 2,000 times. The community is experiencing somewhat of a revival. Sarah says she’s had kids contacting her and expressing the desire to know God.
“They’ve called, they’ve unboxed me on Facebook crying, and saying ‘I want to know God. I want to be saved,'” said Sarah Jones.
Despite their tremendous loss and deep grieving, Sarah and Roshaun have been comforted with how Sierra has touched so many lives, even after her death.
